Have a question?

Yes, physiotherapy can be an effective treatment for individuals with arthritis. Arthritis is a term used to describe inflammation in the joints, which can cause pain, stiffness, and decreased range of motion.

Physiotherapy treatment for arthritis typically includes a combination of exercises, manual therapy techniques, and education on self-management strategies. The goal of treatment is to reduce pain, improve joint mobility, and improve overall function.

Physiotherapy can be particularly helpful for individuals with osteoarthritis, as it can help to reduce pain and improve function in the affected joint. Many people find that physiotherapy is an important part of their arthritis management plan, and can help them to better manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.

Physiotherapists are primary healthcare practitioners and you do not need a referral to see us.

You will need a referral from your GP if you are under any of the above.

  • Workcover patients need to provide their claim number, a work capacity certificate and case managers details.
  • DVA patients are required to provide a current D904 referral to Fortius Allied Health.
  • Medicare only covers chronic injuries and will be determined by your GP if you are eligible for a Chronic disease management plan – there is a maximum of only 5 allied health sessions that can be covered by Medicare.
  • Compulsory Third Party - CTP patients will require a letter from their insurer stating they are covering their allied health.

YES! We use the hicaps system, this allows you to automatically claim your rebate from your health fund immediately following your treatment.  All you need to do is present your health fund card and then you are only required to pay the 'gap fee".

On your first physiotherapy visit, you can expect the following:

  • A comprehensive assessment: Your physiotherapist will conduct a thorough assessment of your condition and will ask you questions about your symptoms, medical history, and pain. They may also observe your movement patterns and perform tests to assess your strength, range of motion, and other aspects of your physical function.
  • A discussion of your treatment plan: Based on the results of your assessment, your physiotherapist will work with you to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs and goals. They will explain the treatment options that are available to you and will work with you to decide which approaches are most likely to be effective for your condition.
  • Your first treatment: Depending on the nature of your condition and the treatment approaches that are most appropriate for you, your physiotherapist may begin your first treatment session on the same day as your assessment. This may involve exercises, stretches, manual therapy, or other techniques to help improve your physical function and reduce your symptoms.
  • Education and advice: Your physiotherapist will also provide you with education and advice to help you understand your condition and what you can do to manage it. They may provide you with exercises or other self-management strategies to help you improve your physical function and reduce your risk of future injuries or problems.

Overall, your first physiotherapy visit will be focused on gathering information, developing a treatment plan, and starting your treatment. Your physiotherapist will work with you to ensure that you understand your condition and what you can do to manag e it effectively.

When you go to your physiotherapy appointment, it is important to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move easily. Here are some specific things to consider:

  • Avoid clothing that is too tight or restrictive: Tight clothing can make it difficult for your physiotherapist to assess your range of motion and can make it harder for you to move comfortably during treatment.
  • Wear clothing that is easy to move in: Loose-fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt, can be a good choice for physiotherapy appointments. This will allow you to move freely and perform exercises and stretches comfortably.
  • Consider the type of treatment you will be receiving: If you are receiving treatment that involves applying heat or cold to your body, you may want to wear clothing that is easy to remove or roll up, such as shorts or a tank top.
  • Wear shoes that are easy to take on and off: You may be asked to remove your shoes during your physiotherapy appointment, so it can be helpful to wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off, such as sandals or slip-on sneakers.

Overall, the most important thing is to wear clothing that is comfortable and allows you to move freely. Your physiotherapist will be able to provide you with more specific recommendations based on your individual needs and treatment goals.
